General
REXKEYS is CardWare! That means: You can use the program free of charge. If you like it, please send a postcard to me with a picture of your place of residence to my address indicated above. Thank you!

You use REXKEYS on your own risk. I reject each responsibility for damage, which was caused by the use of REXKEYS. The user is responsible for the creation of backup copies of all kinds.

RexKeys was tested under Windows98 and WindowsNT4. If the program does not work under other operating systems and environments, I cannot change this, unfortunately.

Mode of operation
This program is able to make the following modifications in your REX6000:
1.) the appearance of the characters
2.) the key allocation of the screen keyboard
3.) the appearance of the keyboard

In order to be able to use the program optimally without destroying thereby your own work, you should have understood the mode of operation. This will be explained now.

There are three tables in the REX6000, which concern the keyboard and the fonts:
1.) the table in which the characters (ASCII-Codes) are assigned to the keys
2.) the tables of the appearance of the three character fonts (normal / bold / small)
3.) the three keyboard graphics

If you now assign another character to a key, RexKeys does not only write the ASCII-Code of the character into the assignment tables, it also copies the picture of that character from the character table of bold characters into the respective keyboard graphic. That means: if you plan to change the appearance of some characters, you should do this before you change the assignments of the keys. Similar concerns to the modification of the keyboard graphics: you should do this as your last procedure, logically. Such a modification can be necessary, if you want some characters on the keyboard graphics look differently than it corresponds to their typeface, or if their altitude should be different than after the automatic insertion (e.g. on the lowest key row). For these reasons you should execute modifications only in this order: character fonts - assignments - keyboard graphics.

Additionally you should know which files are used. The firmware file is named REX.BIN, it can be loaded into the REX6000 with the RexTools. Due to its special structure it can be changed directly only with big difficulties. Therefore, first a workfile is created from its data named REX.HEX. All modifications are made only in this file. Later you can start the transfer of the modifications into REX.BIN. If the file REX.HEX is already available from an earlier session, it will not be produced again, but you can add further modifications. On the other side, you can cancel earlier modifications by re-creating the file REX.HEX. If you want to transfer the modifications into the REX6000, you must let the modifications transfer into the file REX.BIN when leaving the program, and copy this file into the RexTools directory before you start a firmware upate. Of course you created a backup copy from the original file REX.BIN before you start!

At the beginning
Copy all files into a directory of your choice. RexKeys can be executed immediately without further installations. Before that you must still get the firmware file REX.BIN. REX.BIN must be placed into the same directory as RexKeys. Then you can start. First you need some patience, while the workfile REX.HEX will be created.
